Labor Draft Would Cut Call For Fathers
Washington dispatch says a national service law would slow inductions of pre war fathers by freeing replacements for non fathers in essential work. To reach 11 000 Army Navy strength by July 1 1944 about 700 000 must be drafted in early 1944 plus monthly replacements up to 100 000. Lt Col Keesling for Maj Gen Hershey notes replacing non fathers provides men who otherwise would be inducted, while only 90 000 of 446 000 fathers were drafted late 1943.
