Eight Negro Gangsters Facing Murder Charges

South Carolina officers, with Virginia help, moved eight suspects linked to a spree of slayings and hold ups begin charges in Columbia. Washington January 14 The Red Cross national chairman John Barton Payne announced a formal $10,000,000 fundraising campaign to address what he termed the greatest peace time emergency the organization has faced amid drought. Light Snowfall Glazes North Carolina Then Disappears

Temperatures near freezing prevented most light snow from sticking across North Carolina pages. Charlotte recorded snow after 7 pm but three hours later it had largely vanished while Salisbury reported a heavy fall that quickly melted. Durham and Fayetteville saw clouds with 28 degrees, Raleigh and nearby areas had light snow, Greensboro Hickory Wilson and Marion also noted flurries with Marion's staying briefly. Weather forecasts then warned of more snow, especially in eastern regions.
