Mrs Robert Lindsay former president of the High Point Garden Council presented a beautification program at Sunset Garden Club held Friday evening at Mrs T R Hendrixs home. Slides compared beauty and ugliness in High Point as before and after pictures were shown.
Mr and Mrs Edwin Lawson announce the birth of Jeffrey Chadwick on January 7 at Marietta Hospital. Mrs Lawson formerly Miss Marlene Cox of High Point. Also, Mr and Mrs David Layton announce son David Dwayne born January 4 at Wesley Long Hospital in Greensboro.
Mrs Blakley of Rt 5 Lake Rd Thomasville reports the arrival of Angela Renee on Jan 8 at the local hospital. Glenn Garrett 113 Brentwood St welcomes son Robert Lee born Jan 9 at High Point Memorial Hospital. Multiple area families announce Jan births including Angela Lea, Diana and Dian, James Joseph, Sharon Kay, Kelly Lynn, Laurence Stewart Jr, and Philip Allen with birthplaces and dates in High Point Winston-Salem and nearby towns.

Dr E T McSwain visiting UNC Greensboro spoke at Alpha Phi Alpha Delta Kappa luncheon detailing a 1980 education overhaul. Proposals include new teacher classifications, certification by a joint commission, enhanced primary programs for four to nine year olds, emphasis on individual environments, culture aware curriculum, and increased funding with teacher role reductions.
Bill Herndon served as guest pianist at the Young Musician's Club meeting held Saturday at Beth Harrison's home 1241 Westminster Dr. Eighteen members and a visitor attended. Sallie Woollen opened with remarks on Bach while Christine Underwood outlined Handel's life and noted key works.
High Point cosmetologists plan a dinner meeting at the Sheraton Hotel this evening at 7 o'clock. Local professionals will discuss industry topics and socialize after the event.
A weekly Design Column by Gilbert A Gray will appear in the World of Women section of the High Point Enterprise starting Thursday. Gray, a High Point native with design training from NC State and RISD now VCU, has held roles at Miller & Rhoads Alder man Studios Bassett Industries and Wellington Hall. He travels internationally to study trends and plans a trip to Milan and Cologne this month to source contemporary furniture and accessories.
Diane Patterson and Carlton E. Hill married December 26 at College Village Methodist Church. The bride, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Brownie Wagner, wore pale green silk and yellow rose bouquet, escorted by her father. The groom, son of Ruby Hill Dawson and the late J. J. Hill, had brothers J Edward Hill and James J. Hill as attendants. They will reside at 832 Ferndale Dr after a reception hosted by the Wagner family.
The Fine Arts Department of the High Point Woman's Club will meet Friday at 703 E Lexington Ave. Mrs N S Stirewall hosts. Dr Paul Gratiot of High Point College will present the program at 12 30 p m.
