Man and Two Sons Picket Enterprise Offices
A man, E. H. Hennis of Kirkman's Crossroads, led his two sons in a Saturday afternoon picket in front of The Enterprise offices on N. Main Street. Hennis, a 1986 Guilford County sheriff candidate and former Ku Klux Klan member, said he aimed to target Editor Holt McPherson over comments in May 1966. Pickets, with signs, attacked McPherson personally and listed future targets including Judge Allen Gwyn, Judge John McLaughlin, Attorney Lester Chalmers, Judge Benjamin Miles, and Sheriff Paul Gibson. Hennis cited a 1988 assault conviction that led to 60 days in prison as context for his grudges against judiciary members.
