Woman suffocates in blaze at Thurston Street house

Miss Violet Johnson, 57, the sole occupant of 305 Thurston St, died of suffocation in a morning fire that damaged the rear of the home. Guilford County Coroner Dr. W W Harvey ruled the cause. Firefighters found her in a front room fully clothed. no foul play suspected. An administrator was appointed for her affairs. Newsboys noted she attended First Presbyterian Church. More on page ten.

Dead Man Not Linked With Mad Bomber Case

New York police ended a special probe into the Bronx death of 67 year old Andrew Kleenen found dead from bronchial pneumonia. Handwritten notes and writings were sent to a lab but officials said there is no link to the so called mad bomber who has planted bombs in public buildings for 16 years.

Japan Textile Proposal Expected on 1957 58 Limits

Special Rail Officer Killed After Shooting Two Officers

Lloyd C. Hoffman, 39, a Southern Pacific Railroad special officer in Dallas, was killed after shooting two officers who had attempted to ticket him for speeding. Officer F. Mote, 28, and B. F. Pelham, 25, were wounded. both were reported in surgery with non fatal injuries. Hoffman had earlier led officers on a chase and was later apprehended with a 15 year old passenger in his car. the youth witnessed the confrontation and described Hoffman's refusal to take a ticket before he opened fire.
