President Roosevelt sent to Congress a proposal for a national highway network of about 34,000 miles with estimated annual cost of 750000 dollars over several years. The plan emphasizes inter regional routes, urban rural balance, and flexible new routes to curb land costs and rights of way.
Allied air and ground forces report advances in New Guinea as Australian units push along the northeast coast toward American troops at Saidor.
