Dr. Bernice Neugarten, a University of Chicago gerontologist, forecasts that by 2025 four to five generation families may be common, with more older adults in separate households yet strong intergenerational ties. She notes rising over 65 numbers to 42 million by 2025, and that families could become key for emotional and value support even as other institutions take on care duties.
