Suit Threat To Clearing Of Reservoir
The North Carolina Licensing Board for Contractors sued the City of High Point and Garland and Stewart to stop clearing land for a new reservoir, potentially delaying dam and bridge work. The city awarded the $198,000 clearing contract Nov. 14, contending the contractor is unlicensed per the board’s claims. City officials seek a swift resolution and note work cannot begin until land is cleared.

Students To Build Furniture At Guilford Technical Institute
Guilford Technical Institute students in furniture courses will manufacture much of the furniture for the new library classroom building on campus. Building Committee Chair James O Williams said the program can be done in first class fashion at the same cost as purchasing. President Luther Medlin noted state officials approved the plan and trustees John Davis and Ralph Rochelle will head the project. Davis said production should begin in a few weeks as the library classroom structure nears 50 percent completion. Trustees authorized a $15,000 increase for seating furnishings and decorations and approved seeking funds for the Health Science Building totaling about 10 percent over original estimates. The new cost rises to 793,000 with 40 percent federal, 25 percent state, and 34 percent county funding, due to elevator standards and lab-type needs.
