Whitsett School Evacuated After Carbon Monoxide Fumes

Forty seven Whitsett Elementary students were affected by carbon monoxide from a faulty furnace flue. The entire 85 pupil school was evacuated with 15 to 20 fainting. 30 received oxygen at Alamance Memorial Hospital. Principal Jerry Robertson led the evacuation and hospital transfer.

Snowstorm Moves Into Mississippi

First Atom Spy Appointed Special Professor in Ghana

London AP reports Dr Alan Nunn May the 50 year old British scientist known as the Western world s first atom spy has been named special professor of physics at the University of Ghana. A Ghana spokesman said he will take up the post shortly. May worked on an atomic energy project in Canada during World War II and was sentenced to 10 years in 1946 for sharing secrets with the Soviet Union. He was released in 1952 after serving six years and eight months.

Air Force Tanker With Nine Aboard Overdue

An Air Force KB50 tanker with nine aboard was reported overdue on a flight from Langley Air Force Base Virginia to the Azores. The Coast Guard tracked last position about 240 miles east of Norfolk with a track line search in a 40 by 90 mile area.

Rhode Island officials report prison conditions improved in NC
