CIO Textile Union Attacks AFL Contracts in South
The CIO textile workers union charged the AFL with widening the North South wage gap by accepting sub standard contracts in the South. A CIO report cited North Carolina agreements with Erwin Mills Alco Manufacturing and Carolina Finishing Co as evidence of lower wages harsher speedups and weaker grievance rights compared with earlier CIO terms. The report targeted former TWUA VP George Baldanzi now with the AFL.
