The library board discussed a proposal by the American Legion to erect and fund a building and provide space. no action was taken. A final distribution of petitions for a possible special election was reviewed, with the vote to tax for library support but not for constructing a building.
The High Point tuberculosis association seeks to finance occupational therapist training for Guilford county to staff the sanatorium. Dr. M. D. Bonner said morale and training are vital as the institution expands. The board considers spending 600 to 900 to cover the training.
A man tried in Guilford superior court for public drunkenness and resisting arrest yesterday is not the Charlie Thompson of Otteray drive. The defendant’s listed address is 808 South Main Street.
North Carolina State Grange begins its 17th annual meeting at the Sheraton in High Point with Harry B. Caldwell warning that current farm price parity at 90 percent of support could trigger over 100 million dollars in income losses for NC farmers. Caldwell urges modernization of parity to include labor costs and outlines a program for balanced abundance, price fairness, and expanded production. The opening session features Rev. Dumont Clark of the Lord's Acre movement and a banquet hosted by the Trinity Grange with local officials in attendance.
The office of price administration may decide by February 1 on bringing rent control to High Point after a survey by the Labor Department impressed OPA officials. Washington will study the High Point report for about three weeks before recommendations go to Atlanta and then to North Carolina OPA. President Truman’s policy support for continued rent control and housing price ceilings influences the decision.
A direct line from High Point to the Pennsylvania Central Airlines office at the Greensboro High Point airport has been installed. Douglas V. N. Parsons traffic representative announced this morning. Use of telephone number 5411 will save locals the trouble of long distance calls through Greensboro.
A truck from Atlantic States Motor Lines rolled down a hill on Guilford Avenue and crashed into a 1938 Buick owned by D. B. McKinney. The brakes failed last night and the incident caused damage to the Buick during police investigation.

Greensboro painter Kyles Mangum, banned from High Point since 1943, was sentenced by Judge Allen H. Gwyn to six months for two drunkenness charges after appealing municipal court terms.
