Sleet delays traffic in High Point crippled by ice

Last night sleet coated High Point with ice as residents woke to slippery streets and sidewalks. Pedestrians fell several times though none injured. Cars skidded on Main and East Washington streets with some hitting curbs and poles before drizzle and melt ended the icy conditions.

Miners Ratify Wilson Plan In Coal Strike Endorsement

The United Mineworkers of America in Columbus on January 7 ratified accepting President Wilson's plan to end the coal strike with a 14 percent increase. Acting President Lewis urged ratification and said the move includes acceptance of any award by the president's commission. The vote was 1620 to 221.

Cotton futures open barely steady in New York trade

New York cotton futures started the session uneven with January at 37.05 and March at 36.00 while May stood at 34.40 and July at 32.53. Early action showed 14 to 25 point moves with March slipping to 35.70 and July touching 32.58 as Liverpool buyers helped rally prices 10 to 15 points before the hour ended.

Fire crews extinguish small Beaman Street blaze
