Cadet Flies Laughingly To His Death
A French cadet at Randolph air base stole a T-6 trainer and, laughing, flew until gas ran out and crashed near Caldwell Texas. Capt Alain Jourdan said the cadet spoke of dying in the air and left a note asking for the plane’s destruction. The identity was withheld until next of kin could be notified. the crash occurred around 10:20 a.m. CST as planes pursued the trainer and it struck tree tops, killing the pilot who was said to be despondent after failing as a pilot trainee.
