Market declines as profit taking weighs on New Year trading

The noon Dow fell 6.81 to 992.94 amid broad selling on the NYSE where losers led gainers 7 to 6. S.S. Kresge declined to 39% on active trading. The Big Board composite slid .29 to 57.40 while the American Exchange index rose .14 to 110.74. NYSE volume reached 10.15 million shares in early trading.
