New York stock activity opened the week with feeble trade as losses spread 1 to 4 points. Major issues such as U S Steel Consolidated Gas Eastman and Norfolk and Western declined while some banks posted larger withdrawals and a shrinking deposit base raised liquidity concerns. A potential technical rally appeared unlikely until tax selling subsides and short interest shifts are clearer.
