Moscow dispatch says Red flag flew over Velikie Luki marking a major Soviet victory on the Central front. Reports note raids at Kiska bases and ongoing winter struggle as Russians advance in the war.
The Ohio River flood threatened Portsmouth with a crest around 61 feet as 30,000 people fled upstream towns. Army engineers built a 62 foot flood wall and 20,000 sandbags. up to 400 Proctorville residents evacuated. The crest could arrive tonight or Sunday, while upstream towns faced shipping disruptions and war-plant workers awaited return.
Berlin reports German bombers scored hits with naval explosives on an armored cruiser and two freighters in Bone harbor Algeria, causing great havoc to Allied port facilities.
