State shippers and manufacturers led a campaign with the North Carolina Traffic League and the Southern Furniture Manufacturers’ Association to press a reduction in discriminatory freight rates. Testimony argued North Carolina’s higher rates hinder state development, with rail and motor carriers urged to align southern rates with northern levels while preserving sufficient carrier revenue. The ICC revision set for May 1 is expected to ease discrimination for High Point distributors, though observers doubt a full Southwide remedy.
