Who Wrote A Visit From St. Nicholas Mystery

The debate over the author of the Christmas poem “Twas the Night Before Christmas” centers on Clement Clarke Moore and Henry Livingston Jr. Family lore suggests Livingston wrote it in 1822 near Poughkeepsie, while Moore’s lineage notes his scholarly life and other verses. The poem appeared anonymously in 1828 in the Troy Sentinel, with neither man claiming authorship at the time.
