Representative Thomas FE Cooper announced in Wilmington that a bill will be introduced in the next general assembly requiring the county commissioners to call a special election to decide whisky status in New Hanover county. The move aims to set a direct public vote on the issue.
W. L. Cohoon, a grayheaded Elizabeth City attorney and former state highway commissioner, arrived in Fayetteville to begin a 60 day sentence in the Cumberland county jail for horsewhipping a young Elizabeth City attorney. Judge H. A. Grady, who sentenced him, will hold court January 14.
The Gambrill and Melville mill in Bessemer City resumes continuous operation after idling since last March. The plant, which manufactures sheetings, now runs with orders on hand for some time ahead and employs 225 workers.

Dr J C Pennington a Thomasville native has opened a dental office in the First National Bank building. A graduate of Richmond University Dental School he practiced in Richmond Virginia for two years before returning home to Thomasville.
Lloyd Fisher said he would invite John Hughes Curtiss a Norfolk Virginia boatbuilder to testify for Hauptmanns defense in the Lindbergh baby murder trial. Fisher dismissed reports Curtiss offered to identify Hauptmann as involved and said Curtiss is not in New York.
