RALEIGH AP Tar Heel lawmakers backed Gov Hodges program with a committee endorsement for a new General Assembly building and a compulsory polio vaccination bill. Joint Appropriations hearings heard requests from ten agencies for over 5 percent more than Hodges recommendations. Bills on travel expenses for legislators passed to the Senate, costing about 50000 dollars to liberalize per mile rates. The polio shot bill awaits Appropriations decision on who pays for free vaccines.
Bea trice Carpenter, a deaf mute, testified by sign language to allege adultery by her deaf mute husband Alonzo Sr. The State Supreme Court, Justice Herbert D. Hamm, granted divorce noting the trial as unprecedented. The couple wed in 1931 and have three children.
