MOSCOW Feb 28 A delegation from the Mongolian Peoples Republic prepared to depart for home after signing a treaty of friendship and mutual aid with the Soviet Union. It marks the first treaty negotiated since Mongolia's independence was recognized by China.
Lord Rotherwick, chairman of the Clan steamship line, vocally opposed the proposed U S loan to Great Britain at the chamber of shipping annual meeting. Charleston police reported new evidence showing five people died when a green sedan carrying Elmer Lawson his wife and two children Mrs Robert Lawson and Lawson’s mother plunged into the Cooper River breach after the Nicaragua Victory rammed the bridge during a gale. Robert Ramos of Charleston identified the family from a snapshot and placed them on the bridge just before the freighter struck. Previously an army mail truck from Fort Moultrie had reported a car driving into the gap and into the sea.
Bela Imredy former Hungarian prime minister and finance minister was executed by a four man firing squad in Marko jail courtyard after being convicted in November of war crimes and anti Jewish acts. He died today in Budapest.
Charlotte police sought the missing four year old Terry Taylor and 19 year old nurse Rosemary Johnson in Winston Salem and Danville Virginia. Detectives traced their bus trip to Winston Salem but no sightings followed after they left the bus there. A ticket seller at the Charlotte bus station reported selling a ticket to a woman matching Miss Johnson, shifting the search to Danville.
Charlotte February 28 Police Chief Walter F Anderson said he knows the maid’s name who disappeared Tuesday with four year old Terry Taylor. He stated the maid’s name is not Rosemary Johnson the one she gave when engaged a wage and warned a new development might come later today.

In Richmond on February 28 the Virginia General Assembly raced to finish a backlog of measures before March 9. Each house has three days to clear its own bills except appropriation measures while the Senate also pushes ahead. In Baltimore on February 28 a domestic quarrel ended with Robert Moore beating his wife Lillian Santos to death, then slashing his own throat after Lillian, 32, was stabbed and the couple’s 11 year old stepdaughter Lillian Santos was wounded while trying to intervene. The girl, Lillian, 11, described the events to police officers Sergeant Joseph Albert and Patrolman John Griffin, saying Moore used a hammer and ice pick before the fatal injuries and self slashing.
Three thousand marchers broke police lines in Philadelphia as 575 officers on duty requested reinforcements at the General Electric plant. The marchers defied a court injunction on mass picketing, clashed with mounted and motorcycle police, and a chaotic free-for-all followed with ten CIO strike leaders facing contempt charges.
Daniel J. Leary the former Waterbury city comptroller who vanished in 1941 before a prison term was summoned to criminal court in Chicago after police confronted him in a loop shopfront. He admitted his identity saying I am Leary and identified as James Donovan a religious articles salesman. He fled Waterbury in 1941 forfeiting a $50 000 bond went to New York then Florida and Chicago in 1942 with 4500 cash and funds suggesting 532 81 invested in the Catholic religious mart and 10 071 53 profit in five months. He had ties to a Midwest religious goods company.
Manila dispatch reports three killed and seven wounded after Filipino military policemen repulsed a raid by armed peasants on the town of Pogaens in Nueva Ecija province Wednesday night, the provincial MP office announced today.
General Omar N. Bradley, head of the Veterans Administration, urged quick enactment of a law to aid more than 115000 veterans. The plan would adopt a 1945 schedule for rapid disability ratings, apply to all future claims, and retroactively increase about 100000 World War II veterans and 15000 prewar veterans by roughly $17.25 monthly.

George Marsh 69, president of a local wholesale grocery and vicepresident of the Raleigh real estate and trust company, died suddenly at his home in Raleigh on February 28.

Detroit News reports Bowles urged President Truman to lock GM and CIO United Auto Workers negotiators in a room until they reach an agreement to end the 100 day strike. The White House says no plans to call the parties to Washington.
A brief violence incident followed the Philadelphia G E strike on January 15 as efforts to avert a nationwide telephone workers strike faced a setback. After a 14 hour New York conference between AT and T Co and the federation of Long Line Telephone workers no wage hour settlement was reached. Union President J J Moran warned that their next move would come on March 7 as the independent national federation met in Memphis Tennessee.
In Tokyo on February 28, Emperor Hirohito toured a department store as 2000 subjects cheered him. The Communist Party denounced the tours as pre election campaigning for reactionary parties and demanded the emperor be banned from such campaigns. Police struggled to clear a path as the crowd pressed around the emperor’s car.
Berlin official Col. Frank Howley said the U S occupation zone in the capital has been de Nazified. He noted future problems will be political and soon two thirds of the administrative apparatus will be civilian.
A Swiss reader asked the Swiss post office and H R Kiesinger for official North Carolina booklets. He referenced August 1939 ads for North Carolina guides and vacationland outdoors, asking for a reply if sending the booklets is impossible. He closed with wishes for lasting peace.

He noted they average 1920 calories daily, winter survival better than expected and hospital capacity improving. 556000 displaced persons exist. over 260000 banned from public employment for Nazi ties.
London dateline reports Gen Claude Auchinleck told the Council of State that Indian troops would begin withdrawing from Indonesia tomorrow. The British commander in chief in India announced the move in a delivery to the Indian central assembly.

Lawmakers praised his analysis after his UNO remarks calling for patience yet firmness, with Hatch Fullbright Ball Russell Brewster supporting a clear, uncompromising U.S. position in world affairs.
London reported the Spanish government shut two main gateways with France at Port Bou and Irún, halting normal traffic ahead of a French order to seal the border at midnight. Anti Franco sentiment rose across Europe with Belgium and Bulgaria urged action. Prague radio cut in with anti Franco announcements.
