London reports Allied air raids on the Reich continue for a 48th hour with heavy bombardment following Cologne. RAF and American-British pilots strike Axis-occupied Europe amid counter blows by German forces.

Pilot Hugh Ashcroft described a perilous crossing as oil sprayed from Fortress Southern Comfort and crew faced 20 millimeter hits while the ship survived with a twisted rudder and damaged nose.
Allied forces retook Kasserine and closed on an air field near Thelepte as German demolitions preceded withdrawal. British units repelled several Axis tank thrusts from Goubellat to Dou Arada with heavy losses to the enemy and several cages captured. The Churchill tank enters action and Eighth Army signals an imminent Mareth Line push as reinforcements move toward the south.
Raleigh February 27 The state Senate passed a $115 million appropriation bill in ten minutes and will reconvene Monday while the House meets Monday night. The measures include war bonuses for teachers and state workers and prison labor for farm work in emergencies. Divorce residency changes to six months clear House reading. beer and wine sales banned after 11:30 pm.
President Roosevelt, troubled by an intestinal disorder since Wednesday, is said to be progressing satisfactorily at the White House. He has no fever this morning and will take things easy over the weekend per his physician’s advice. no engagements are planned today.
