High Point Power Outages Prompt Council to Seek Explanation

In 1917 High Point faced frequent outages as electric current served power and illumination. City Manager Murphy invited North Carolina Public Service President Hole to explain the poor service. An expert lined up to study lines from Southern Power, NC Public Service, and the city, but the report vanished. Murphy was told the report would arrive in about 10 to 14 days, delayed by the draft and reassignment of the electrician and his assistant. The recent service curtailment disrupted church services and lowered voltage affecting lights and machinery.
