The Brotherhood Week speech by O Herschel Folger of Asheboro St. Friends Meeting in Greensboro urged love for neighbors and tolerance across race, religion, and culture. He argued understanding others reveals ethics and goals, calling for acts of good to all and condemning prejudice as a tool of tyrants.
The Board of Evangelism of the Methodist Church schedules four rallies at Greensboro Thomasville and Winston-Salem districts. Speakers include Dr G Ernest Thomas and Bishop Costen J Harrell with J Clay Madison presiding. Dinner for about 500 Methodists and host churches Dilworth Broad Street Statesville Cen participate.
An early evening pageant titled Dreamed I Searched Heaven For You was presented at the church. The program began at 8 o clock with a choir and an illustrated sermon drawn from the pastor R. O. McAlpine.

An Appomattox man 49 year old Frank Mayberry shot and killed two men, his brother in law and a doctor, in a 90 minute gun battle with about 30 officers before he was captured. Mayberry wounded by shotgun blast and held in county jail. Victims identified as Jack Tucker and Dr David Christian. Police said motive unknown and gunfire scattered as sheriff’s deputies returned fire.
Japan eyes 467 House seats as Conservatives lead in polls with two major parties along with Socialists. The ballot pits Ichiro Hatoyama’s Democratic Party and the Liberal Party against right and left Socialist factions while Communists run a partial comeback. Voter turnout projected near 75 percent with 37 to 38 million eligible.
Secretary of State Dulles arrived in Rangoon for full and friendly discussions with Burmese leaders. He denied seeking to woo or be wooed by U Nu and planned to attend Manila Pact powers talks before moving on to Manila for a Southeast Asia chiefs of missions meeting.
Nationalist warplanes attacked Chinese Communist craft northwest of Wuchiu in the Formosa Strait and destroyed two Red ships according to air force headquarters. The communique said all Nationalist planes returned safely. The report notes shelling near Wuchiu and references U S defense commitments to Formosa and the Pescadores.
Representatives from North Carolina vote 9 3 in favor of a $20 individual income tax cut as part of a package tax bill aimed at corporate taxes and certain senior taxes for a year. The text is fragmented but notes one delegation supporting the individual tax cut.
