Pitts state prison director said last year escapees Tick and Sam Thompson were handed to North Carolina and state authorities. Tom Little, fugitive officer, traveled to Columbia, D C, to retrieve them after months of robbery in November.
Two men and a woman were arrested by agents and each held on 825 000 bond on espionage charges. Reed Vitterli of the Bureau of Investigation in New York said further arrests were possible and that the investigation is continuing.
Six flying fortresses of the American army crossed the Isthmus and landed at France Field for servicing as they continue their return flight from Buenos Aires to Miami. The 10,000 mile journey is expected to resume tomorrow.

Washington February 26 The House Ways and Means Committee reached a complete agreement on proposed tax revision after defeating a final bid to repeal the undisputed profits tax. Chairman Poughton D NC said only the formality remained of introducing the bill and sending it to the House next Tuesday.
The United States exported 18.674 million more merchandise than it imported in January 1938. Exports totaled 289.437 million, while January imports were 170.3 million, up from 240.452 million a year earlier.
Tari Davis, 30, of this city, was jailed on a bigamy charge after two women, one in H Point and the other in Lex, identified him as their lawful husband. He is in the city lock-up on a $1,000 bond with a Municipal Court hearing planned for tomorrow morning.

In Philadelphia the Ruth commission opened an inquiry into the acquittal of 19 year old Mary O Connor who was freed last week of murder manslaughter and involuntary manslaughter in the Labor Day death of five year old Nancy Glenn. UP witnesses testified before the commission as it investigates potential improper jury influence. Judge Joseph Sloane ordered cooperation with the inquiry.
General John J. Pershing lay near death in Tucson as a medical bulletin reported a faint rally in his condition. Family members paced the corridor and officials prepared for end of life, with plans to bury him in his old Washington uniform.

He said France would follow Britain but not abandon small allies and urged Austria to remain dependent while opposing any political hegemony. He also signaled a willingness to engage with Germany’s Berlin axis ally.
George Peck Jr age 24 Albemarle painter died after falling 16 to 17 feet through a hole used by firemen on the second floor of Thomasville City Hall. He was alone when the accident occurred about 3:30 p.m. A coroner ruled the death accidental. He survived by his parents sister and two brothers. Funeral set for 2 p.m. tomorrow at First E... church in Albemarle.
Raleigh Feb 26 The North Carolina Democratic Party schedules its state convention in Raleigh on May 19 with the Democratic Executive Committee noting May 7 for meetings and May 17 for conventions. The president of the US Democratic Clubs of North Carolina will join the executive committee as an ex officio member.
MEMPHIS Tenn Feb 26 PE A O Neall president of the American Farm Bureau Federation appeals to Southern farmers to vote overwhelmingly for marketing quotas in the March 12 referendum under the new farm act. He warns of disaster if producers fail to support quotas noting demand limits and a past crop surplus with prices dropping from 12 to 8 cents. He predicts a near universal turnout by 2,000,000 cotton and tobacco growers and urges cooperation among producers to back the program.
