Humphrey confident Reds can be beaten in Viet Nam
Vice President Hubert H. Humphrey told congressional leaders at the White House that he returns from Southeast Asia with restrained optimism and confidence the Communists can be defeated in South Viet Nam. He said the tide of battle has turned and US and South Vietnamese forces can sustain a planned forward movement backed by social and economic reforms. Humphrey spoke after briefings for about 200 Congress members and later gave a digest of the report to Senate and House committees handling appropriations armed services and foreign affairs.
