Interstate Roads Will Be Opened In North Carolina

Kannapolis AP. Highway Director William F Babcock says 160 miles of interstate roadways in North Carolina are scheduled for opening to traffic this year. The project group will complete more than a quarter of the 775 mile system with completion not until 1975. He says miles along the routes will ease overloaded primary highways between West Durham and Greensboro Statesville and Conover Hildebran and Marion Kenley and Fayetteville. He notes interstate highways have lower fatality rates than conventional roads and cites statewide needs exceeding a billion dollars with current revenue leaving the secondary system short by about 150 million over the next decade.
