Thirty-one people were injured when a northbound Wa railroad train derailed after a collision with a truck at a crossing near Chicago. One truck driver was killed. Seven members of Hal K orchestra received first aid. Maxine Gray, 23, a singer from Shreveport, and Milligan, 26, from Boston, were hospitalized. The band members later rejoined for performances.
Jerry Smith was found not guilty of intimidating a state's witness in municipal court while Theodore Gibson was convicted. Judge Zeague will sentence Gibson tomorrow at 2 PM. They also face an attempted bribery charge to be heard in Guilford Superior Court. Goldie Long testified Gibson brought Smith to her home on Kivett Drive September 14.
