Chicago police face fresh accusations as more than 20 officers are linked to a gang specializing in Gold Coast robberies. Acting Commissioner Kyran Phelan said evidence from the mayoral investigation chief and the burglary commander ties the new officers to the ring. Four convicted burglars from Stateville Prison, led by Harry Mefford and Casimir Boniakowski, admit hundreds of robberies, many in the Gold Coast.

Fire crews from two companies fought the blaze with initial reports listing sixteen occupants. Cause was not yet determined and one patient remained in critical condition.
