North Carolina Payroll Withholding Plan Faces Little Opposition
Raleigh AP reports Senate Finance Chairman Arthur Kirkman says there is virtually no opposition to the proposed payroll withholding plan for state income taxes. He notes scant opposition among lawmakers and mentions a 27.0 million windfall debate over using the funds to balance the 1959-61 budget or for permanent improvements. Some suggest starting the plan July 1 to tax only half a year. The General Assembly held a token session as budget hearings loom Tuesday.

Crack Wabash Cannonball In Accident
The Wabash Cannonball collided with a car in Mount Olive Illinois killing a mother and her son Mrs Don Miller 54 and Marvin Miller 17. Earlier the same train hit a pickup in Danville Illinois killing Robert Grant 42 his son Lawrence 16 and nephew Jack Grant 15 from Batestown. The train was en route from Detroit to St Louis and ran half an hour late from the first wreck.
