Crossbills Visit Jersey From Northern Regions
Bird watchers in Montclair New Jersey report at least 500 white winged crossbills in the area. The flock, normally native to Canada and Alaska, is rarely seen this far south. Since 1900 only 27 other authenticated crossbill sightings exist in the New York New Jersey region per Audubon Society. Mrs. Robert Arny of the Federated Naturalists of New Jersey aims to band the birds to trace their range. Crossbills are typically non migratory. True mastodons, relatives of elephants, once existed in North America but did not reach South America.
