Insurance Rates Up Again in North Carolina
The North Carolina Insurance Rating Bureau renews requests for higher extended coverage and fire insurance rates. In new filings to Insurance Commissioner Charles F Gold the bureau seeks a 1 626 013 rise in extended coverage rates instead of 3 803 920 and the same increase in fire rates. Gold rejected the earlier plan noting it was excessive. The bureau argues the earlier request reflected losses from Hurricane Hazel in 1954 and defends the revision as not excessive though acknowledging the shock of nearly 100 raise.
