Payoff Comes With Soap Aid In Vietnam Village
DETROIT AP A Detroit housewife’s 40 bars of soap helped win a Vietnamese village against the Viet Cong. Mrs Alfred Schwartzenfeld collected the items after Capt Sidney Linver asked for simple help to gain trust. Linver’s unit treated villagers, and during a VC attack, villagers warned the security squad, enabling a defensive withdrawal. The VC suffered 28 killed and 15 wounded. ARVN casualties were zero. Four villagers were wounded. livestock and rice losses occurred but were compensated.

Monument Vacuumed For George Washington Birthday Cleaning
The Washington Monument received an interior cleaning ahead of George Washingtons birthday. National Park Service staff vacuumed and dusted the 555 foot shaft, after hours, with visitors restricted for a day and a half. They removed two 20 gallon cans of dust weekly and also repaint benches, wash the elevator shaft, and erase visitor graffiti on the interior.
