Link Between Heart Kidney Studied by UNC scientists
CHAPEL HILL Feb 18 Puffy eyes swollen ankles and a sense of heaviness may signal edema. University of North Carolina researchers Dr. Carl Gottschalk and Margaret Mylle measure capillary and tubule pressures in rat kidneys to explore how heart and kidney functions are interlinked. They use a micromanipulator to puncture tiny kidney structures and study fluid movement through filtration reabsorption and urine formation. More on page ten.
