City Council details and early High Point funerary history

In High Point actions, the 1975 city council elected Roy Culler as mayor with council members Rachel Gray Arnold Koonce Bob Wells Sam Burford Bi Brewer Joe Patterson and Archie Myatt all elected for two-year terms. After Gray’s resignation Jack Dillard filled Gray’s unexpired term in 1976 and terms run to January 1978. Koonce and Wells are Republicans the rest Democrats. The city garden plots will be plowed when soil dries likely late March. six plots remain open. Submit questions to Andy Lang via The Enterprise. The High Point Museum notes James Robert Parker who moved here in 1881 started the first undertaking business with Joe Sechrest. Parker led the North Carolina Undertakers Association for five years retiring in 1896.

Gas Price Ruling S expected on residential emergency surcharges

The North Carolina Utilities Commission weighed a 25 percent residential surcharge to cover emergency gas costs. FBI Cleared In Murder Of King

A Justice Department task force found no evidence that the FBI was involved in Dr. Martin Luther King Jr.'s murder and deemed the FBI investigation thorough. The report reviewed over 200000 documents and about 40 witnesses and concluded James Earl Ray acted alone. It noted some leads were not checked and called harassment of King improper but recommended against prosecutions.
