A rain area moving east from eastern Texas and Oklahoma spread into Louisiana and Arkansas. Brussels reports final results show the right wing Catholic party with 92 seats in the 202 member chamber, short of a majority. Premier Van Acker’s Socialists won 70, Communists 23, Liberals 16, and the UD B 1. Carton de Wiart to form a government if coalition possible. The regent may appoint Van Acker or ask him to resign. Brussels radio says Van Acker offered his resignation to Prince Regent Charles, who asked him to stay on temporarily.
Boston mayor and U S representative James Curley, 71, along with two associates, jailed for six months to a year and six months and fined 1000 dollars for mail fraud linked to Engineers Group Inc. All plan appeals to higher courts. Curley noted for long career in politics from Boston council to governor and multiple mayoral terms.
Kingston Jamaica feb 18. Fifteen male inmates burned to death in a fire that destroyed the infirmary ward during a night of fires at the Kingston mental hospital. Riots followed walkouts by asylum staff and workers with additional killings over the weekend amid clashes involving police and unions.
Nearly 500 veterans and their spouses in 148 taxicabs left Chicago escorted by police seeking federal aid for local cab licenses. They travel with provisions and bedding, led by 26 year old Edgar Sirles, challenging a city ordinance capping cabs at 3,000 controlled by two firms.
