London Faces Major Rise in Telephone Rates
London reports a postmaster general plan to raise telephone charges on April 1 both for existing and new subscribers. The move follows a Commons select committee report and replaces the old five pound flat yearly rate with a sliding scale, drawing broad criticism from business groups and chambers of commerce. Wages and plant costs cited by the postmaster general as justification.
