President Roosevelt accepted the resignation of Wayne Taylor assistant secretary of treasury effective immediately. Taylor cited circumstances making it difficult to continue in service and expressed a readiness to rejoin government duties in the future.
Acting Attorney General Wade Ton says one alleged securities violator, Marion Allen of Washington, is free on bonds totaling 9,000 tied to Stanly and Hertford county charges. A second man, H F Lambert of Lynchburg Virginia, is jailed in Albemarle. Both await Stanly County Superior Court trial.

Washington Feb 16 Senator King D Utah said he would not be averse to selecting Paul V McNutt Philippine high commissioner as the 1940 Democratic presidential nominee He called McNutt a fine and able man with many qualifications while noting others he would prefer though he would rather see McNutt nominated than some New Dealers.
Memphis and the Tennessee Valley Authority completed a $17.36 million purchase of Memphis Power & Light electric and gas properties. The city pays $15.25 million with TVA contributing $2.11 million, plus a standby generating plant to ensure service. Negotiators included TVA official Joe Swidler and Memphis officials. The deal follows TVA consolidations in Memphis, Chattanooga, Knoxville, and Nashville region utilities.
