President Hoover signed the relief bill ending the eight hour filibuster in the Senate and a swift House vote. Charge Old Man With Stabbing At Avery County Home

LaFayette Taylor an 85 year old patriarch of Avery County is jailed in Newland charged with the fatal stabbing of Turner Carpenter 26 at the home of Honey Waites Wiseman in the three mile community ten miles northeast of Spruce Pine Carpenter reportedly attacked Taylor wounding him before Taylor's knife thrust hit Carpenter just below the heart causing instant death. Taylor surrendered to the sheriff after the incident.

War Over Bread Prices Rages in Humboldt Park Chicago

Residents resumed their six cent bread protest in Humboldt Park with about 500 marchers moving on a bakery selling 10 cent bread. Seven picketers were arrested as they clashed with police during the breakout disturbance.

Plane pilot and passenger killed in Danville crash

A two seater plane dove nose first into a field at Danville landing field tonight. Pilot Gene Lamm 34 held a commercial license and his passenger Mrs. R. W. Stephens were killed. Husband of Mrs Stephens witnessed the crash from the Danville airport.

In Greensboro on February 14 the Andrews Cooper Lumber Co and others won judgment in superior court against A W Clark and wife after withdrawing exceptions to referee Michaux. The court awarded sums to several creditors: Andrews Cooper Lumber 103.50, J C Holmes Lumber 1679.81, High Point Hardware 445.48, Frank Allman 600.19, and Smith Supply 1095.95, with liens allocated per the referee’s report. Finger Is Caught In Ice Box Drain

Mrs Sophie Secton had her finger caught in an ice box drain in New York on February 14. She summoned a janitor who called tenants and two policemen for help. The emergency squad arrived and sawed off the bottom of the ice box then drained from the bottom and from the finger, taking an hour and a half.

Two men and a woman were arrested in a raid on an opium den in a stylish New York west end apartment. Police seized five opium smoking outfits, two pounds of raw opium and a quantity of prepared opium.
