Charge Old Man With Stabbing At Avery County Home
LaFayette Taylor an 85 year old patriarch of Avery County is jailed in Newland charged with the fatal stabbing of Turner Carpenter 26 at the home of Honey Waites Wiseman in the three mile community ten miles northeast of Spruce Pine Carpenter reportedly attacked Taylor wounding him before Taylor's knife thrust hit Carpenter just below the heart causing instant death. Taylor surrendered to the sheriff after the incident.

Mrs Sophie Secton had her finger caught in an ice box drain in New York on February 14. She summoned a janitor who called tenants and two policemen for help.
