A High Point area Transportation Advisory Committee endorsed relocating the U.S. 311 bypass east of Archdale and improving Thomasville Road between English Road and L85. Murder charge in High Point shooting death in New London
Ronald Lee Norman Jr 97 of New London was shot Friday evening in a Maple Street apartment parking lot. Beverly Ray Gillespie 26 of Maple Street was charged with murder after authorities say the shooting followed an argument. Norman’s estranged wife Judy Norman reported the incident. Norman, a triad plastics truck driver and Army veteran, left behind a wife two sons a daughter and several siblings. funeral services are planned at Straight Way Baptist Church with burial at Guilford Memorial Park.

Wrecks injure nine in multiple Friday crashes
A Friday night series of wrecks left nine people with minor injuries. Joseph Walton, 9, and Brian Walton, 12, were slightly hurt in a Ward Avenue crash with Brenda Gay Walton driving. Johnnie Lee Jackson, 17, suffered minor injuries on Monthew Avenue. Deborah Haley Mann was cited after failing to yield at Lakecrest Drive. An unidentified eight year old girl was hurt on Johnson Street. Lorre Leigh Liptrap also injured. Sam Bradley and Henry Alsbrook reported minor injuries in separate incidents. A hit and run struck Henry Alsbrook on Green Drive. William D Oliver and a passenger escaped injury when his car went off the road on Bolingbroke Road. See WRECKS On 3A.

Post Office To Close Monday For Washington Birthday
High Point Postal Service will operate on a holiday schedule Monday in accord with the federal observance of George Washington Birthday. There will be no regular residential or business delivery Monday. Mail will be collected from boxes marked with one or two white stars. Special delivery service will be in effect. Regular service will resume Tuesday morning.
