North Carolina Railroad stock still pays off for Davis family
The great grandfather of J S Davis purchased three shares of North Carolina Railroad stock around 1850, now yielding a semi annual dividend of 10 50 and about seven percent. The stock largely remains owned by the state with Davis as a fourth generation holder and the family retains a 30 dollar receipt from 1853. The line, opening 1855, connected Goldsboro to Greensboro and Thomasville with High Point rising as a major city along the route.
