Davidson College trustees prepare to adopt a new constitution after a two year study and a year old report. They plan a $100000 conditional gift fund and discuss reserve officers training corps as part of policy changes. Dr A A McGeachy calls the change influential for college life and aims.
Executive committee of the Davidson College board of trustees will gather in Charlotte with about 35 members from North Carolina Georgia and Florida attending the two day meeting. They will draft matters for the full board including a proposed new constitution with Dr W L Lingle of Richmond as chair and S A Robinson of Gastonia as secretary.
Laura Wood of Trinity died instantly when his car collided head on with a Ford on the Greensboro Winston-Salem highway. His wife mother and baby were injured, taken to a Greensboro hospital and later released. The Ford driver, reportedly drinking, escaped before identity was learned. The deceased was born in Stokes County and had lived in High Point and Trinity.
Ralph Batschelet a Denver University student affairs leader and Thinkers association vice president was flogged last night by five masked men. The attack followed a planned debate between Judge Ben Lindsey and Rev. Dr. Burris A. Jenkins. Police said two other association members were threatened and names Morris Grupp and Margaret Farlow appear in connections to the threats.
Winston Salem February 14 AP Edna Speaks age 13 accuses Jonah Speaks 52 Leroy Pendergrass 24 and Garland Childress all white of enticing her for a ride and assaulting her. She lived with Mr and Mrs A A Martin near Yadkinville. They allegedly took her to an abandoned house held her a day and she was rescued in a pitiful condition. Pendergrass has prior prison time and a suspended sentence for store breaking. Preliminary hearing before a magistrate scheduled this week.
Washington Feb 14 AP The McNary Haugen farm relief bill is set for a three hour House debate with a final vote unlikely before week’s end. Supporters led by Haugen aim for a test vote tomorrow to show strength before contentions over amendments and a possible Senate conference report.
Berlin reports the death of Consul General William Coffin from heart disease in Algiers where he was on vacation. The death occurred last night and is confirmed by AP. Coffin served in the consular service and his passing ends a notable diplomatic career.
Berea College President William J. Hutchins argues that college students have too much liberty and risk losing sense of responsibility. He says government should balance faculty and student input, with students gradually framing their own rules while ensuring access for southern mountain families.
Henry Ford discusses experiments to replace cows pigs and poultry with non animal ingredients citing his lab study of oat crackers with pecan flavor. He calls the farmer unnecessary and condemns the McNary Haugen farm bill as asinine while advocating machinery and science over subsidies and livestock.
The government opens its case against Senator James Couzens and former stockholders over a $30 million tax claim on the 1919 transfer of Ford Motor Company stock to the Ford family. It disputes the $9,489 per share valuation and argues Henry Ford set a $6,100 per share value in 1917.
James W. Pharr aged 63 of Charlotte died suddenly in his home. Born in Statesville in 1863, he studied at Davidson College and served on the Union Theological Seminary board and Davidson College trustees. He retired four years ago. his wife died last September. He leaves five sons and a daughter. Funeral services will be held to be announced.

The Senate Interstate Commerce Committee ordered a favorable report on the Pitt man bill which would exempt short line railroads from paying to the government half of all net earnings above six percent.

Radio telephone service to London and all points in Great Britain will be established Wednesday in Georgia, Kentucky, North Carolina, South Carolina, Tennessee, Virginia and West Virginia. A 7:30 a.m. call from Atlanta to London will inaugurate the service by Ben S. Read, with public access starting then. Charges: 78 cents for a three minute talk and 16 cents per additional minute.

W. C. King of High Point High School announced at 3:30 this afternoon that the scheduled game for tomorrow afternoon is postponed to Wednesday night. The game is set to precede the High Point versus Lenoir Rhyne matchup after stage preparations were completed earlier today.
Asheville forward Bill James tops the state scoring chart with 192 points, edging Wake Forest teammate Al Dowtin who has 182 as the Deacons surge in a race for the 1927 title. Wake Forest leads team scoring with 743 points while Carolina sits second at 628 and Duke trails with 268.
President and Mrs. Coolidge received invitations from representatives of 18 states to attend the United States Good Roads Association annual convention in Savannah Georgia from June 6 to 11. He said he would consider the invitation and noted his interest in the good roads movement.
The Beulah Philathea class of Green Street Baptist will hold its monthly business meeting Tuesday night at 7 30 in the church basement. All members are urged to attend.
