ACC Holds Line on Christmas Tourney Proposal
The Atlantic Coast Conference basketball committee postponed action on replacing the post season tourney with a Christmas Holiday event. Duke’s Eddie Cameron, chairing the five member group, said changes could not take effect before March 1965 as schedules for next season are set. The idea would crown the regular season leader as champion, replacing the three day sudden death format that now determines the title. The current championship tourney generates about 50,000 to 60,000 dollars annually, the conference’s top revenue source. The Dixie Classic was dropped two years ago after point fixing disclosures.

Rumors say GM brass were unaware of parts support to drivers and the move ties to a national GM breakup push. Chevrolet may also trim NASCAR activity with Junior Johnson Rex White and G C Spencer backed by Chevy.
