George T. Jenkins, 59, a Federal Housing Administration worker and former Raleigh newspaper man, died at Mt. Oho Veterans Hospital after a three month illness from a ruptured blood vessel. Funeral services are tentatively set for Fort Myer chapel Monday with burial in Arlington National Cemetery. He was the son of Rev John W. Jenkins, founder of the Methodist Orphanage in Raleigh. He served 14 years in FHA information division.

Henry Ward Beecher and Lucy Stone headed the American Woman Suffrage Association founded in 1868 to secure the vote for women.
In 1869 the Wyoming Territory granted women the vote and in 1870 Utah followed. The move marked early gains for women’s suffrage in the American West with both territories granting voting rights to women ahead of other states.
