A reported battle near Olahudka southwest of Lake Bor left Mongolians defeated and retreating after several hours of fighting. The clash, amid disputed territory claimed by Mongolia and Manchoukuo, involved Japanese and Manchoukuoan forces and ended with Mongols evacuated from Olahudka.
Senator William Borah from Idaho and Col Frank Knox of Chicago filed petitions with Illinois secretary of state to qualify for the April 14 presidential primary ballot. Knox promotes Republican nomination while Borah joins as a rival candidate and both petitions are backed by party figures and grass roots organizers.
Weather since Christmas shuts down most highway work in North Carolina. Vance Basie, chief highway engineer, reports over 100 sections under contract but only a few days of work have been possible since December.

Fred Williams was in serious condition. the youths says he fired to kill a hawk while his uncle, who was said to be drinking, charged with a stick. Neighbor testimony cites long-standing tension between the two men.
A solitary demonstrator named the Mysterious Mr. X stood outside the White House on February 12 proposing that the soldiers bonus be paid in 15 weekly installments rather than as a lump sum. He remained largely unmolested and unnoticed.

In Sparborough North Carolina Feb 12 two sisters from Arcadia were killed and Blanche Austin fatally injured when their car collided with a Southern passenger train at a crossing near Arcadia. Johnella Austin died at the scene and Blanche succumbed to injuries later.
Jackie Coogan and Betty Grable reported a carjacking in Chicago after a 50 mile per hour chase. Two gunmen forced them to surrender money and a five carat engagement ring, as Grable attempted to hide it on the car floor.
The Senate Foreign Relations Committee endorses unanimously a revised neutrality measure delaying embargo features to May 1, 1937 while excluding American republics attacked by non‑Americans. It drops two administration provisions and adds a mandate to embargo loans to belligerents. A broader permanent act was not yet set for floor action.
