Winter Storm Slams East North Carolina With Snow and Wind
A powerful winter storm lashes eastern North Carolina with blizzard like conditions. Wilmington reports seven inches of snow and 45 mph winds while Atlantic Beach and other coastal towns see 10 inches or more. Roads chaos, stranded cars, and advisories persist as the storm's edge moves northeast. Coastal tides and high seas threaten low grounds, with gusts up to 80 mph and 20 to 25 foot seas offshore. Temperature readings stay in the 20s and 30s as the Weather Service warns of continuing heavy snow and dangerous travel conditions.
