Forger Put On Probation By Judge
Jack Vaughn aged 26 of Clara Cox Apartments pled guilty to cashing three forged checks worth 89 dollars on July 27 using personalized checks of W. A. James. He admitted stealing the checks and said ill health and need for money motivated the act. Judge Farthing ordered probation supervision and to consider a separate case against Bobby Lee Furr for a $2,700 theft from a strong box on Nov. 18, 1955. Detective Staley testified Furr said he had served time in prison and wanted to tell the truth. Furr claimed 15 years in prison or training camps among 25 years total, with $500 recovered and $600 later stolen again by another inmate now in Virginia prison. The judge noted reform is rare but asked for more time to decide Farr's plea to return to work.
