Pelican Bowl Will Survive and Thrive With New Pact
The Pelican Bowl, the nation’s only black teams postseason game, may endure after SWAC and MEAC agree to send champions to the game. Attendance fell to about 7,000 last December, with 1974 drawing 28,000, and TV coverage remains a key goal to cushion deficits. Officials cite improved scheduling and a potential TV package as critical to the game’s financial and moral support.
