GOP Attacks Big Spending at Northeast Conference

At the Northeast Republican Conference, Treasury Secretary William E. Simon led a push against big government, warning that one third of income goes to federal spending and railing against inflation. RNC Chair Mary Louise Smith stressed Democrats also face anti-government winds, but Republicans must lead on the issue. Simon warned against stop-go policies and argued market solutions. Governor Jim Holshouser designated February as Human Relations Month in North Carolina, urging broader goodwill and understanding statewide. Carl L.
