In Southern Pines a 32 year old unmarried white woman Mary Frances Cole was charged with murdering her full term infant son born January 29 in a local hotel room. Police say the baby was dashed against a wall and the body wrapped in a towel and placed in a suitcase. Two Die as Car Hit by Freight Train Near Shawboro
